The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research, and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical, surgical, oncology, and pediatric patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics.  Within the department, there are 70 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 32 general and specialized pharmacy residents. 

This position reports to the Operations Manager, Clinical Pharmacy Services for the Adult Medicine, Emergency, and Surgery Pharmacy, and will be responsible for working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary health care team to promote wellness, maintain current health, and/or intervene in acute or chronic illness.  The incumbent will promote the safe and effective use of medications by consulting with other health care professionals concerning problems and instructs patients and families on their medications. The incumbent will provide education to patients, students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners.

This position will have a primary clinical practice focus within the  Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CVSICU) . The CVSICU consists of two multidisciplinary teaching and rounding teams that collectively provide care for 26 patients. The incumbent will serve as an active member of one of these teams, participating in daily interdisciplinary rounds and contributing to comprehensive patient care management. In addition, this role will be responsible for reviewing and verifying medication orders for the CVSICU for approximately five hours each day. The incumbent will also provide cross-coverage support, as needed, for other clinical pharmacy services, with an emphasis on critical care populations. As a member of the code response team, the pharmacist will participate in code and other emergent clinical responses. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and academic engagement through precepting pharmacy learners, participating in and leading research initiatives, and serving on departmental and interdisciplinary committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm. D. or BS degree.  Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program or equivalent experience is desired.
• 3 years of related experience required. 1 year of residency experience preferred.
• Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland is required. Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or a certification deemed appropriate for the practitioner’s practice setting by the Division Director is required within 2 years of the start date.
• Hospital and departmental education requirements completed within 90 days of hire.  ACLS and/or PALS certification is desired.
• Requires comprehensive knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, drug information, and the medication use system.  Familiarity with medication safety concepts and process improvement methodologies is desired. 
• Demonstrates a high level of skills related to teamwork, organization, and prioritization of workflow.  Displays customer service and interpersonal communication skills required for effective communication with patients and other health care providers.  Exhibits emotional maturity with regard to teamwork, self-awareness, and empathy.  A high level of analytical ability is required to research and evaluate drug information, interpret patient-specific data, and resolve problems regarding medication use.  Committed to precepting, teaching, mentoring, and coaching pharmacy technicians, students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners.

Shift: 

Full Time (40 hours) 

Rotating Shift 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Weekend work required (every 3rd weekend)

Exempt

Salary Range: Minimum $59.29/hour - Maximum $97.91/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
